I have been trying to compose this message mentally for most of the day. I still haven't quite got it right. It seems surreal that she is really not here with us anymore. Even as I type this- it feels somewhat like I am outside of my 'real' self.
Ms.Brandy chose me and crawled into my lap when she was 7 weeks old and never for a moment after did she let me forget just who wears the fur in this house! 14 1/2 years is a long time, but now it seems a heartbeat of time.
She had a tumor for almost 10 years, I believe that is what took her from us. Over the last couple of weeks she was losing control of her back end. By monday afternoon she also lost all strength in her front. She spent her last hours being rubbed and scritched and comforted by me. She also had her favorite treat- Hershey kisses. As many as she wanted.
And being truly herself and having things her way; she chose to leave during the two minutes that I left the room...
I am so grateful to all of you whom have sent messages as well as e-cards and mailed cards. As well for the many messages to the drool. I plan to answer all of you who took the time out to think of us-I am truly humbled by the sheer number of them. Thank you ~ it really does help.
A huge thank you to auntie Sandy who helped her stay with us these last 5 years. This house is very quiet now even with Elvis and Chillie here. John is still tip-toeing past the pantry ( her favorite place to sleep the last couple of months) as she was deaf and roared if she was startled awake.
She was not a snuggly basset- more a demanding ruler. There are very few that can lay claim to having loved on her. Even fewer who were honored with kisses- I personally was lowest on that list. But she wriggled her way so deep into my heart that even I am still trying to figure it out. She had lots of aunties who loved her a lot and even a couple of uncles. Many were trained to bring special treats when we got together. Her auntie Carol and Uncle Frank were of the chosen few that she allowed to pet her.
There is so much more I want to write but I just can't find the words right now. Thank you for being here my drool family and especially those of you who have been a lifeline the last few days.
I really miss my prissy old girl...
Angelika and family

"...I still want you by my side
Just to help me dry the tears that I've cried
But I'm sure gonna give you a try
'cause if you want I'll try to love again
Baby I'll try to love again but I know

The first cut is the deepest..." -Rod Stewart
