[Dailydrool] need advice on resource guarding problem

Hello, wondering if my message can be passed on in case someone has had the same experience - I would appreciate any advice/feedback!
 
I have a 15-month old Basset.  I've had him since he was 9 weeks old.  He is loving, funny, great with people and other dogs, great social skills.  However on September 1st, he bit me on my arm (punctured skin) as he was guarding his vomit.  I consulted with a behavior specialist who assessed he has resource guarding.  I have a child and so I am fearful my Basset will turn on her.  I no longer trust him.  I have considered Basset Rescue.  I am struggling with this as I love him and the idea of surrendering him is tearing me apart.  Does anyone have a similar experience and can provide some advice?  I would really appreciate it!
