We use to cook spaghetti squash this way... but lately have found it much
faster and easier to cook it in the microwave oven!!

Do you think butternut squash could cook the same way? we cut 1 ~ 1.5 inch
knife holes (think stop sign / octagonal sided) two per side, 8 sides round
the thing, at an offset from side to side...

first side's holes
      ----- -----
second side
----- ------
  etc

... and then nuke in shallow glass (usually pie plate) with saran wrap and a
1/4 to 1 cup of water ... think the last time we did it 8 minutes on high
... then rotated, another 8 ... and when you can easily push in a side ..
that's when you know its done~done-ish .. :)

I would suggest you buy a butternut squash. It's pale orange, oblong. Cut it
in half long ways, place it cut side down on a baking sheet lined with
parchment paper or aluminum foil. Bake at 375 degrees for about 45 minutes
until it is soft when poked with a fork. Scoop out the seeds when cooled.
Use it in any recipe for canned pumpkin. I used to make this for my cat's
homemade food.
