We are in mourning today for Oliver our rescue.  The shelter in Tulsa had found him last June wandering the streets.  Chris Dowd had asked for someone to rescue him and keep him for a couple of weeks till she could find transport people to take him to NM.  He was scheduled to be euthanized the next day, so I volunteered even tho' we already had too many dogs for the town I live in. When we got him, he was stinky, dirty and skinny.  I thought Oh Boy, what a mess!  We took him straight to the bathtub as soon as we got him home.  He just stood there and let us soap and scrub, never trying to get out.  He took to our family like he had always been here.  The other dogs accepted him and he and Annie played and played. When Chris wrote to say they had transportation for him, we said we wanted to keep him.  He soon gained weight and had a beautiful shiny coat.  Ollie was the most kind and loving soul I've ever had.  He never pushed his way into
anything, always sitting back and waiting his turn.  He slept with my daughter as Annie slept with me and there wasn't room.  He soon became my daughters buddy.  He would jump up in her lap and lay down all in one motion. He ate peas and spaghetti off a fork with finesse, never spilling. He never got into anything, never tore up anything, never peed in the house. Yesterday we took him to the vets to have his teeth cleaned. The vet called a couple hours later and said he didn't make it.  He said he had finished one side and then Ollie just stopped breathing.  They worked on him for 1/2 hour, but couldn't revive him.  The vet was crying when he called us.  We are having him creamated and brought home to bury under our flower bed in the front where we can all see him each day.  .
