[Dailydrool] length of basset ears

Rosie was the mascot at our home agility trial this weekend.  She doesn't run agility anymore, but she likes to come and be social with everyone and be the hostess (although she did steal part of someone's cake that they left sitting on the edge of a table - not very hospitable!).  This weekend, someone asked me how long a basset's ears are supposed to be, and I was embarrassed that I couldn't tell them.  I think I knew at one time but I've forgotten.  Anyway, I told them they have to be long enough to get extremely messy when they eat and drink, and they must collect drool and sling it when the basset shakes.  

So you conformation people out there, how long really are they supposed to be for the AKC standard?
