treatment depends on causation.  if looking to the drool for anecdotal
cures, some could worsen the issue or even be the cause of killing the
hound.
 
If your friend has already done the work with the vetman, what did the
vetman prescribe? is it reasonable?  is this also a cost issue rather than a
"that doctoring stuff is all filled with quacks and mother nature can heal
houndies better"???
 
Lots of questions ... before getting really helpful responses..
