Hi Everyone

I don't know if you guys remember that I posted last week about Violeta's eye that was very red, swollen.
Dad person freaked out and took her to Dr Torrance, who is well regarded here in Calgary. He examined her and said it was allergy. Prescribed her drops and a corticoid.
Three days passed and even though it looked less swollen it was not well enough, what should happen when you are prescribed the correct meds.
So to the vet again, this time the 24hs because it was Sunday. This one was nice. He was very thorough, mesured the eye pressure and detected glaucoma, and said that there are 2 kinds, Violeta's is the worse.
He refered Violeta to the eye-vet speciallist, (where we should have taken her in the first place ) who reached the same diagnosis of glaucoma. Prescribed two kinds of drops: Xalatan, Cosopt (dorzolamide hydrochloride and timolol maleate) and Metacam (antinflamatory).
My ex is devastated, I have cried and cried but I'm trying to come to terms with it, being glaucoma so comon in bassets. I was afraid Violeta's spirit would change, that this would affect her personality and mood.
But now the eye look much better, only somewhat bigger and kind of greyish, similar to Xaxa's catharact (sp?).
On Monday the eye-vet will keep Violeta the whole day and take the eye pressure every hour.
After that we will meet with him and he will make the recomendations.
He has talked about surgery, removal of the eye, and other options. We would like to treat her with drops and antinflamatory drugs without surgery and removal of the eye should be the last option, only if she is in pain or suffering.
I would appreciate any info, advice, stories, experiences. We know nothing about it and want to do only what is good for her.He said she has only 10% of chance to recover the sight in this eye and he said that she will, FOR SURE, develop it in the left eye also, only a matter of time.
As you notice it is a lot of info for two slaves who know nothing about glaucoma.
We are reading about it on the internet and I will get some books in the library.
We'd love for you, knowledgeble droolers, to share your glaucoma info with us. After that first doc that said it was allergy, I am afraid to go right away and book surgery. I need to know from you droolers that have dealt with glaucoma, and I bet many of you have. I hope to be able to preserve her "good" eye.
