I agree with Pat. When Bertrand started to scratch his eye, the person that cleans my house called me at work. I left immediately and took him to his regular vet, as she was wonderful with all his many other illnesses. Unfortunately, neither she had the "thing" to measure the pressure, nor she recommended the ophthalmologist. After 3 days, his eyes had become cloudy and I returned. The drops that I have been giving to Bertrand had atropin and this made him go blind right away. She just wasn't trained to treat glaucoma and she never suspected that Bertrand was scratching his eye (which made his cornea sore) because of it! She just recognized the glaucoma after the cloudiness. Since then, his new vet is an ophthalmologist (the same who started treating him after he lost one eye). Fortunately, he seems to be one of the best in the country.
