[Dailydrool] OMBR has Christmas puppies!

Happy New Year, everyone!  Now that they are three weeks old, and
robustly healthy so far, I feel I can safely introduce OMBR's surprise
Christmas litter of half-basset puppies!

We got one of those calls on Dec. 10th; you know the one - "we're
moving and can't take our basset."  She told us the basset was outside
in a pen in all weather; then she casually said "oh, and she had
puppies yesterday; there were five then, but only four this morning."
The temps at night were in the 20's that week.  After argument, we
finally convinced the "owner" to bring mom and pups in for the night,
then take them to our vet in the morning.  Our wonderful vet,
Wedington Animal Hospital, calmly accepted this little group, and kept
them for a few days, making sure everyone was OK.

So I am now fostering Sally, a young, tiny basset and her four fat
bouncing half-basset buppies.  Sally is an excellent momma, and the
puppies are becoming alert and active now.

We will need funds to get the pups all their needed care before they
go to their new homes, and poor Sally has *very* crooked front legs.
I'm not sure if anything can be done about them at this point, but
after the pups are weaned, we'd like to get her evaluated.  If you'd
