[Dailydrool] Santana's nail

Has anyone had one of their bassets licking licking at a nail.  Well tonight
I finally realized he wasn't just licking, he was biting his nail.
Luckily he lets me touch his nails when he is in a deep slumber on my lap
(he is still here now)  I moved the  fur around his nail and noticed one
side of it is red and swollen.  Its very reddish pink.  Hard to see without
moving his hair.  So this is right where his nail connects into his toe..I
guess you would call it the cuticle, not sure if it has a name in dogs.  Any
insights?  He is going to the vet though on Saturday finally.
I was going to clean it with peroxide and put some triple anti biotic on it
now that we are going to bed because he will not lick it as soon as he hits
the blankets he is out.  If he does I will cover it with his blanket like I
did now to stop him from licking.
