As I was reading about the escapades of Miss Millie and her poop party my
heart started to beat faster and I had a flashback of many years ago...I had
to be about 16 years old and my mother was the main care giver of the
pets. At the time we had 2 bassets, a bulldog , 3 poodles, and 3 cats. My
parents went away and my mother put me in charge of feeding the animals. We
had a doggie door so I thought, easy enough!!! This one day I come home
from school opened the door and you would have thought a poop bomb went off.
There was diarrhea throughout the entire house...I mean everywhere ...the
couch, the chairs, the beds...everywhere. I became hysterical ...I just
wanted to leave the house and never come back. I did have enough sense to
call the Vet (whom happened to be a family friend). I was screaming and
crying on the phone with him. He calmed me down and said there were two
things that I needed to do immediately...the first was to open all the windows
and the second was NOT to walk around the house barefooted....I was not
amused but he did make me giggle. He then gave me the Pepto instructions with
making a pocket in the back of their lip , pouring in and then jump back
cause they do shake the pink stuff all over...(he suggested I do this
outside).(they didn't have caplets back then) He also suggested that I make
them rice. With this information I proceeded with the task of cleaning up,
gagging the entire time. I did have one plus and that was we have hardwood
floors to make the job just a little easier. It was the rest that was
daunting. Of course later that evening my mother called to check up on how we
were doing. I proceeded to tell her what happened and her question to me
was "After the bowls were empty did you wash them out?". Now at 16 years
old who would know to wash out their bowls...they were all fed dry kibble and
the bowls were sparkling clean ....duh!!! My mother explained that there
was bacteria from their saliva and that she always would clean the bowls
after they ate...especially since they would go to each other bowls after the
fact and lick the one last lick. That was a hard lesson but I learned it
very quickly...something I pass onto anyone who does care for my dogs when I
go away.

Thanks for the memory Dawn..LOL!!!
