Hi Paula,

Once upon a time, we had a poop-eating basset, Sarah, and a cat, too. We ended up making a heavy U-shaped barrier out of 18" shelf boards and a few screws, so that when laid on its side, it was 18" tall and it blocked the litter box on three sides. The fourth side of the litter box was near a wall, so we had the barrier far enough from the wall so the cat could get through, but the basset could not.

Sarah never tried to move the barrier, but you could attach it to the wall or the floor in some way if your basset is really determined to get in there.

All of this was under a laundry sink, so we didn't have to worry about Sarah the Basset getting in over the top -- you could put a partial lid on it, too, if you have a persistent basset.

By the way, if you email your post as "plain text", it will show up in the Drool better:)

Good luck with your cat box!
