Since Nancy is revamping the Daily Drool website, and there has been a
recent question about purchasing a puppy, I thought I would put the
questions here that a puppy buyer should be asking a breeder when
considering buying a puppy.

1. How many litters of puppies has the breeder bred this year? (More
than 2-3 is not good)

2. Are the sire and dam on the premises or available to see?

3. Were the sire and dam tested for genetic problems? (glaucoma, VWD,
etc.)

4. In a four generation pedigree, how many titled dogs are there?
(should be 50% or more)

5. Does the breeder belong to the national breed club? (BHCA)

6. Does the breeder belong to a local breed club?

7. Does the breeder participate in or support rescue efforts for the
breed?

8. Does the breeder sell pets ONLY on a spay/neuter contract?

9. Does the breeder insist on dogs being returned to him/her if a
problem arises?

10. Does the breeder offer information and mentoring support throughout
the life of the dog?

11. Does the breeder participate in ANY form of training/competition
with their dogs

(conformation, obedience, tracking, field, therapy etc.)?

12. At what age are the puppies sold? (less than 10 weeks is not
acceptable)

13. Do the puppies have a vet's health certificate at the time of sale?
14. Does the breeder microchip their puppies prior to sale?
15. Does the breeder arrange to see the puppies or require photo
updates?
