[Dailydrool] Eva and a Kidney

Karen thanks for taking the time to read my story. I didnot know Bonnie was
posting it so thank you Bonnie. Yes my insurance covers all the testing and
transportation to and from the hospital. I will pay for all the work you will
miss. The donor would be in the hospital 3 - 5 days and could not lift any thing
heavy for 5 - 6 weeks.  Several of my foster homes have volunteered but were the
wrong blood type. Also another Drooler has volunteered. If you are on blood
pressure meds they will turn you down. If you are over 60 yrs young. There are
80,000 people on the list for a kidney, so it is basically BYOK instead of BYOB.
:) If anybody wantes to volunteer email me and I will give you the name and
number of the nurse. Karen i hope you heal soon and again thanks.

Nigel and Llewis celebrated their birthday in style yesterday and have asked
me to thank everyone for the birthday wishes as they are a bit....as Nigel
says, "leftover". They had treats and new toys (which Cooper instantly
appropriated) and no special walk because the heat index was 101 or
something in that range and I didn't think it was a real good idea.
As a matter of fact their day consisted mostly of arguing, barking at
EVERYTHING (my theory is that high humidity keeps sounds close to the
ground, so that the dogs hear more-- plus there was no wind. )
MomPerson was not home in the evening but returned from her engagement early
due to a combination of terminal boredom and the fact that a check of the
homefront indicated that DadPerson was about done dog-sitting...LOL.
Apparently canine spirits were very high. There was ominous mention of "Not
making it to another birthday." (They were VERY rowdy.) Cabin fever.
Anyway thanks to all for the birthday wishes and I am sure Nigel and Llewis
will be back up to snuff in no time.

MomPerson to Nigel, Llewis, Conley and Cooper (all these toys are MINE.)

Congrats to PW Elvis, what a guy!  We all hope you are feeling well and stay
that way.  Excellent choice QwP.

We have read Eva's story and need for a kidney.  This is a gentle reminder
to all droolers to please sign up to be organ donors.  Our own he-slave has
been on dialysis for 31 months.  He does peritoneal dialysis at home.  His
wise doctor put him on dialysis before it became critical.

Eva, should you need hear first hand experience about dialysis, let me know.
Mike's center has asked him to speak with new patients a number of times.

Drool to our hurting hounds and humans.  Stay cool everyone!

Thurs night was an excellent night here on British tv in terms of bassetdom.
First of all a very interesting programme about pigs?and they featured?a nice
couple in Devon who live on a farm and own 2 bassets. I have taken my own videos

of the programmes as I know the US can't access BBC iplayer.? Here are 2 video
clips and a link to the farm:

http://www.holwelldartmoor.co.uk/meet-the-family.html
(click on the tab 'a bother of bassets')

http://tiny.cc/44tn6? -? for basset looking in the mirror

http://tiny.cc/6perj?- bassets on a walk

and the second shot of a basset was following a very disturbing programme by
Panorama. It was entitled 'It Shouldn't Happen at a Vets' and featured vets and
nurses employed by Medivet who are a locum vet agency over here not exactly
being very professional, and in one instance being downright cruel. But they
featured a basset at the end:

http://tiny.cc/42egf

Oh, and when you watch the videos, if the annoying Eye Ointment advert? featured

on the top left of the page comes on, GRRRR, just click the tiny box in the top
right hand corner of the advert and it mutes it.

I pushed my trip back a week - I've got a cold and still quite a bit of
organizing to do, so will leave next weekend. Anyway, the houndies'
grandparents (who they will meet for the first time in about 2 weeks!) have
been keeping me posted on the weather. It is 105+ degrees. My parents have a
postage stamp yard with cement, rocks, and the occasional shrub - no grass.
Since walks will be limited because of the heat, and there isn't a way to
run in the yard, even at night, what do you desert houndies do for exercise?
Is there a daycare that is air conditioned and not too expensive that Kahuna
and Zuma can attend even once a week, or indoor dog park, or ??? We haven't
been walking a heck of lot here either but they do run in the yard and play
outside.

Also open to setting up play dates and meeting other houndies in the area!

It's been cool and rainy here, but drool is being sent to all in need!

Synthia, Bud, Zuma, Kahuna

We hope that all our friends in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois are all safe
and dry. We also wish that you could send some of that rain our way, where
it is 100, feeling like 104, and dry as a bone.  After all the snow we had
last winter, we are almost in a drought condition.  Please drool the rain to
head towards southern Maryland.
Happy late Birthday to Nigel and LLewis.  Henry and Thelma send drool to all
the 2 and 4 leggers that aren't up to par.

The boys are sending dry healing drool for Isaacs neck.  We hope that you heal
up and dry out soon.

Happy Birthday to the Brudders Nigel and LLewis.  We hope that you got lots of
goodies for your special day.

All is quite here at ASTT Headquaters today. There haven't been any squirrels
out today for the boys to seek and destroy. I'm not sure if they are hiding from
the heat & humidity or the incoming Tropical Storm that we will get the outer
feeder bands.

Colt & Ruger hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend.

We are Drooling and praying for Eva to find a matching kidney soon.  I loved the
link to the website
for her and the pic was great!  If she still has a need in a few months when I
am healed, I will definitely

be tested since I am A+.  Anyone know if the insurance pays for the transport
costs and if say I were a
match that they would make sure the kidney goes to Eva?

I have been a donor for years in the event I should go to the Bridge.  I also
know that when I was at Hershey Medical
Center we did stem cell transplants to help boost our breast cancer and some of
the transplant patients. That might be

something to look into for Eva for the future.

You would think with all the technology out there they could grow a kidney by
now...actually they probably can.

Sending lots of Healing Drool and Prayers,
Karen and The Dog House Gang

We miss having a basset in the house!!! Our luck has not been good thus far -
first potential adoption fell through as unbeknownst to the rescue, our soon to
be basset had already been adopted. I had 2 shelters that I contacted (they said
they prefer email contact) never respond, I had one scam artist try to bilk me
out of $$ and the photo of her basset was swiped off a basset faq, and our last
possible adoptee from Ohio doesn't like kitties.

Sooo, I'm putting this out there. We are looking for a large, goofy, 'bassety'
red and white or lemon & white  (male or female), middle age-ish, laid back,
good with dogs, people and ignores cats. I didn't think that would be difficult,
but apparently it is perhaps overly picky. I am particularly looking for a
'classic' looking basset - nothing that looks like they should be in a show
ring, but fat paws, short legs, long ears. Scooter-Pie was a sweet thing, but he
was like the antibasset. He was a basset of a different color and temperament.
I'm purposely going for a basset look not to be compared w/Scootie.

I've looked at various rescues but no basset is popping out off the website with
that description. If any rescue within a day or two driving distance of PA
thinks they have 'the one', please email me and I will be glad to drive and meet
them.

thanks,

Nancy Gallagher
