Today is my Freddy's 7th birthday! I never celebrated his or Annie's birthdays before, just their Gotcha Day (which is when I feel their lives really began :) However, I knew that his birthday was at the end of July, and Annie's was in August. They were rescued as part of the OMBR 24, and I was reminded that they were rescued 3 years ago yesterday. I decided to look at their paperwork and see when their actual birthdays are. Fred's is the day after they were rescued, and Annie's is August 17th, the day before their Gotcha Day...I thought that this was pretty cool, and will be easy to remember. We will still have our hamburger feast on their Gotcha Day, but I will now do a little something special to acknowledge their birthdays too...Fred got to go to camp (Doggie Daycare) today, to celebrate with his friends! He is now snoring next to me on the couch, and Annie is relaxed again, now that he is home.

I saw recently that the Senior Hounds Abound calendar considers any dog over 7 to qualify as a "senior." Fred is the farthest thing from senior that I've ever seen...people at the dog park thought that he was a puppy! I hope that he always stays as goofy, energetic and playful as he is today. Sherry Faulkner, who led the OMBR 24 rescue, told me that one memory she has of that day (probably one of the few pleasant ones) is of Fred, so happy to see people and acting like a total nut! Phil Guinn talks of having to play hide and seek with Fred in waist-high weeds and 90+ degree heat in order to catch him...Fred thought it was a game! The description of Fred on the OMBR 24 website after the rescue was that he was the class clown...he'd wait at the front of his run every morning, wanting the vet's staff to come and play! Suzanne Fitch of Mid-ABHR told me that a number of people who helped with the transport had offered to adopt Fred. I feel so blessed that I was chosen to be his Mom...it wasn't part of the original plan...well, MY original plan, but it was clearly part of the bigger plan, because I can't imagine life without him!!

Happy Birthday to my goofball, cuddle-bug, handsome boy...I love you!!

Rose
