[Dailydrool] keeping dogs cool

I have been very confused (easy to do) for a long time about cooling devices
for dogs, since they do not sweat the same way we do. They pant and saliva
is evaporated and cools the dog likewise, the pads of the feet sweat and are
cooled.
But they don't cool off all over their bodies, right?
So the cooling bandanas would be good in that they cool down the blood
vessels in the back of the neck and spinal column, which is very important.
But does shaving a dog really create any benefit? I would think the coat
would insulate the dog against heat (unless he is left out all day---) I
would never shave one of my dogs, but I know people who do. Does it actually
cool them? Could some one who KNOWS give me an answer? I have heard two
different stories-- one that it helps and one that it only promotes sunburn
and causes the dog additional discomfort.
