Different people have different takes on tracking and hunting.

I personally feel that tracking live game and tracking human scent are two distinctly different objectives.  When tracking live game, we have instinct and predation on board.

Both types of tracking can appear very similar with the dog's head down sniffing what is called "a line" of scent.

Just getting the dog to put their head down and follow any line of scent is certainly beneficial to both sports.  After that, it is my personal belief only that both must be practiced and developed to really excell in either sport, but that bassets have the ability in both to easily excell.

So if you practice hunting/tracking live game, they will get better at that, and if you practice tracking human footsteps, they will also get better at that~
