[Dailydrool] Shooting dogs

As far as we can tell, none of the Basset girls we have now (Gracie, Holly
and Anna) have been physically abused, other than being neglected and
ignored. Buy my dear little Abby, who was a red tweenie Dachshund and has
been ATB for many years, was one of three puppies that a man was seen
leaving in a box on the doorstep of the SPCA in Dallas many years ago. The
pups were three females, probably from the same litter, all in the 6 to 8
month old range. All of the pups had been severely beaten, and the SPCA
managed to keep Abby and one other pup alive, but the third died from being
beaten to death. And it wasn't their first beating, you should have seen
the physical and emotional scars on those girls.

So I adopted Abby a couple of months later, and she stayed velcroed to me
until the day she died at age 13. When she was 8 years old she was
diagnosed with a heart murmur, and x-rays were taken at that time. The
x-rays showed she had a pellet from a pellet gun (not a bb, worse) imbedded
in her back, and trust me, it did not happen after she came to live with me.
She had been abused in so many ways I can't even list them all and trust me
you don't want to know some of the things that had been done to her, and
then we find out she was shot, too, all before her first birthday. I've had
several other dogs who had been abused, although none anywhere near as badly
as Abby. Which is why I fervently hope and pray that there is such a place
as hell, and there is some form of divine retribution for meanness and
cruelty, whether it is to people or to animals. And why as a group, I much
prefer animals to people. I hope the lady who shot the Sharpei "gets hers"
some day. All she had to do was call animal control, but she'd prefer to go
buy a BB gun and shoot the poor dog. Nice person.
