Bill here, press agent/personal trainer to Miss Angela Basset, Droop
and Drool Diva of Wichita and Sedgwick County

Miss Angela is snoring mightily (but in a most feminine manner) on
the couch, still exhausted from the hustle bustle of her birthday
yesterday. Her big party was Friday night and it was the social soiree
of the season. She spent the morning at the spa, getting a bath,
nail trim and ear cleaning. I had given them very clear instructions
NOT to put wings on her like they did last year. She does not like
it though she exhibits patience and tries to hide her humiliation. So
this year, they didn't add the wings. They painted her toenails. She
again showed extreme patience. Be that as it may, she arrived home
to a clean house (the cleaning ladies had done a thorough job) and
within an hour, people began showing up, many bearing gifts. As I
had specified on the invitation, things labeled "lite",. "lo-cal" or "lean"
(though sins against nature) were predominant. One big, smoked
knuckle bone was her favorite. Her least favorite was a tee shirt
brought by grandchildren of one of my oldest friends. She allowed
them to put it on her and wore it until they left. Then we removed it
and it may never be worn again. As you all know, Miss Angela
prefers to be NUDE, NUDE, NUDE. And without painted nails.

Miss Angela entertained her public well beyond the four hours
specified on the invitation but retired to her couch before the last
hangers-on departed. She appears to have been surreptitiously
fed cheese, cookies and doG only knows what else. At least no
one gave her anything that made her sick. I will admit that she
at times became an unashamed begger for treats at the buffet
and even attempted to countercruise (unsuccessfully) on at
least one occasion, all without diminishing her natural dignity
and graciousness. We think a good time was held by all.
Miss Angela was especially generous to share the bottle of
Old Bushmills that Uncle Don brought her for the occasion,
which added to the general mood elevation.

Yesterday (Saturday) was her actual birthday and she acted
surprised to hear her name mentioned every hour on the hour
by our local NPR station as a day sponsor. That brought even
more birthday wishes and presents. Today she will be able to
relax all day and catch up on her beauty sleep. She won't be
more than usually pampered until the 20th when folksinger
Mary McCaslin comes through. Mary is a real basset person
though not a Drooler and will lavish affection on Angela for
providing a needed basset fix to a lonely musician out on the
road.

And now we rest.
Bill ( now, let Spring begin here on the plains)
Angela (Hush. Can't you see I'm sleeping until lunch)
