It is with great sadness that I advise that Cakie is at the bridge. Jamboree's
Black Forest Cake, born January 6, 1998 atb March 22, 2010. Yup, she was
only 12. We are sick over her sudden departure. Cakie had been suffering
from some back problems but was generally healthy. Over the last few weeks
she gradually stopped eating. She was tempted with a variety of comestibles
sufficient to stock a casino buffet. She also turned down meatloaf, and
cookies made with kibble ground into flour, mixed with liver and eggs and
baked to the crunch she favored. She rapidly progressed to where she turned
down all cookies. We knew she was in deep trouble. Ultimately she was found
to suffer from diffuse internal bleeding that could not be controlled and
which weakened her to the point of no recovery. This was despite
transfusion, a plethora of meds and days in the emergency hospital. The
vets had no more to offer. She rolled her eyes and said it was time for her
to see Mama Tootsie, Feyfey, Melba Toast and Taco Woof Bell. She was eager
to get to the buffet she'd been typing about for so many years.

Born to Mama Cammie, Pw. Cakie was an only puppy destined for the show ring.
Except that she decided that she was better suited to a life of eating
cookies and working to help her friends in need.

Cakie immediately put her breederslaves, Hank and Sharon Scully to work
gathering her BoardWaddle pledges. She did so well that Cakie served as
Grand Marshall of BoardWaddle 2001. In 2004 she inherited the job of
BoardWaddle hostess, from her Aunt feyfey and moved in with slaves Dawn and
Rich although she visited with Hank and Sharon regularly. She became an
active volunteer for Tri-State Basset Rescue, collected a shelf full of
Michigan Basset Rescue pledge awards, volunteered at the Ramble, attended
Slobberfest and shared her cookie money with countless other organizations.
Cakie loved nothing more than her cookies so this was a great sacrifice.
(She also had a way of charming her Aunties into bringing her cookies to
replace the ones she gave up. Her cookie dance was legendary.) She
encouraged the custom of stomping to drive rain away from basset events and
made it very clear that nobody dared leave her presence with money left in
their pocket.

Cakie spent most of her time at basset events tolerating the slaves selling
things. She endured long stretches in her X pen. She was the ONLY basset to
have been at all 11 BoardWaddles and BoardWaddle twelve will not be the same
without her. Consistently competitive in "Closest to the Ground," Cakie
tied with her daughter, Petunia at both this year's BoardWaddle and Michigan
waddle.

Cakie was mom to Petunia, Jacky and the late Talooolah. She had nine
beautiful grandpupcakes and six pawfect Great Grand Puppies. She often posed
with Pawtunia and her son, Chunky Deucher. Some of her ancestors and
descendants look just like her. She adored her Cammie mom, her sister,
Cherries Jubilee, wished she knew her Danish sister, Mississippi Mudcake
(mom had a little fun on vacation.) senior Cousin Rosie, Aunties Taco Bell
and Uncle Chilidawg. She lived with our darling sweet Nudgie who passed last
year and then with big puppy, Rusty. She adopted Wednesday who didn't get to
see her real mom too much. Being part of Cakie's family was and is forever.
Except for her cad husband, Ben. He abandoned her after she became pregnant
and took advantage of her dear cousin, Sporty Spice. Happily divorced from
Ben, she enjoyed sniffing the field. She was very good friends with Wendell.
She also tolerated a walk around the ring in the Pawrade of Veterans , held
at Nationals in Gettysburg, 2006. While this was primarily so that nobody
kicked her out of the dawG show for not being entered, she was very proud to
have her story read along with Aunt Taco and Uncle Chili.

Cakie had the life that every pwitty basset girl should deserve. She had two
sets of loving people, nice hound family who she knew, lots of cookies,
travel and an opportunity to be adored and of service. She recognized that
not every houndie was so lucky and did her best to raise funds to improve
their lot.

Cakie was extremely focused..on cookies. She cleaned out her visiting Aunt
Sandy's pockets on more than one occasion and expected that all who waddled
would come prepared to pay tribute to her in the form of cookies. She had
the 'look' down pat and usually got her way. Even with her very chintzy with
the cookie's Aunt Carol. Today it was my sad job to send her last cookie
with her at Paws to Heaven, along with a picture of her and Auntie feyfey. I
saw them put the cookie on her box so that she would have a little something
for the trip. We'll pick up her ashes on Saturday. Hopefully the picture
will show the driver who he should deliver her to at the bridge. Cakie was
never too good at directions.

Thank you to folks who have remembered her kindly, some prematurely.
Apologies to those who have been looking for a post about her trip to the
bridge. I conveyed her passing, privately to some folks who had written me
wishing her a speeding recovery. I've learned that not everyone is to be
trusted, that several of those people took it upon themselves to forward my
emails, put things about her on facebook or post to the Drool without the
courtesy of asking or waiting for Pawtunia or me to do so. Cakie deserved
better and I'm sorry for my mistake of having faith that directly sharing a
tragedy is a personal communication. I had to stop crying long enough to
write this. Pawtunia helped. In the words of Melba Toast, nuff said.

I was looking at the carved "cakie" nut Pw. Panama Jacques had done of her a
few years back and thinking how very much it looks like her. Jacques didn't
much care for her at their one meeting. She knows Pw. Miss Brandy beat her
to the bridge and was a little nervous about that. I hope they like her
better at the buffet. She sniffed Kings George and Bob and liked them very
much. She does not want to see them again any time soon and hopes it is a
long time before Scooter Pie joins her.

Rich and I were already working as fast as we could on the BoardWaddle.
Cakie would not brook us wasting any more time and I best get back to work.
She commanded that Pawtunia take over as Basset Hostess. I'm not sure when
Cakie became her own force of nature. She started out as a goofy puppy,
trained for hard work by her Aunt FeyFey and grew into her jobs. Pawtunia
studied hard, but is less than thrilled about waddling in Momcake's very big
pawprints. She'll appreciate a lot of help from her friends.

dawnslave

..for Rich, Pawtunia and Rusty

SOB. We miss Cakie. Big miss.
