Maybe someone can help me here.  I have a rescue Basset 8 yrs old who came from a Puppy mill.  Was used as a breeder.  We have had him for 3 months.  Every Sunday night my girls and three grandsons age 6, 9, and 13 come for dinner.  When we first got him he was fine with the kids, of course I was causious.  For the past three Sundays,  I have been unsure with him because he will stand and bark at the 13 yr older.  He dosen't lunge at him or run after him, he just watching him walking around the house and then he will follow him and if he is doing something in one of the rooms, he will stand at the doorway and bark.  Last night we had my grandson stand still and left him smell h is hand to see what would happen.  As soon as he smelled his hand, he jumped back about a foot and then started this barking thing.  It dosen't last long and then he walks away.  Any ideas of suggestions as to what is setting him off?  I don't want to gate him off, but I am afraid maybe something isn't right here.  Otherwise he is sweet with everyone else.  In fact, 7 small girls came to our yard last week and he went to the fence and jumped up and loved on all of them.  This is really weird.
