[Dailydrool] The Hannolds

Voice of bitter experience here again.

I am very pleased the Hannolds are getting a rental house and have a new car. This will help them feel a little more settled.

However, I also know that up to this point they will have been running on adrenaline. There are so many things they had to do, to sort out, to be there for. Now will be the first time they get the chance to stop and take stock.

Believe me, this is the point where reality strikes and you take stock of everything you lost. In the Hannold's case they lost their pets and that is most probably their biggest ache, but from now on they will also think about the lifetime of photographs, silly sentimental knick knacks, favourite clothes, the only really comfy pair of shoes . . .well, you get the picture.

What I'm trying to say is, believe it or not, stage two of surviving a house fire is, in an odd way, worse than stage one, where you are just grateful to have got out alive.

Please maintain the level of love and support that you wonderful Droolers have already shown - not financial, emotional is what's needed now. Once you are in a rental house, even the kindest of people tend to think "They're OK now" and withdraw. This is probably when they will need to talk, to remember and to cry. We must be there for them.
