[Dailydrool] Turning white

I think my boys hold the record for early fading of red and white bassets. All the siblings in the litter started out with beautiful red markings, and all had white faces before the age of 1. Now my boys are 7, and there are no pure red spots left--all are flecked with white. People have been stopping me and saying, "boy, those dogs must be old", since Bo and Harley were two.

On a funny note, last night I was walking Harley. Poor Harley is still struggling with a sore on his toe--we go to the vet today. The many remedies I have tried have not worked, so I finally resorted to the dread e-collar.

Bassets are rare where I live. Many people have never seen one before. The most common purebred dogs in Hawaii and pitbulls (and chihuahuas). So, last night someone stopped me, looking at Harley with his e-collar, and remarked: "Oh, you must have just had his ears cropped, huh? That's the most unusual pit mix I've ever seen". Ears cropped on a basset? Wouldn't THAT be a sight!
