[Dailydrool] Once Upon a Time and pancreatitis

There was a little girl with her first Basset hound. She brought a kitten
home from work one day for her son, a little stripey cat named Arsenal.
Arsenal had been here about a day when Son allowed kitty to play outside and
with amazing predictability, kitty shot under a fence and was GONE GONE
GONE.
The little girl and her family and her sobbing 14 yr old son searched and
searched and searched but kitty was nowhere.
The little girl got the bright idea (and it was, as it turned out) of
letting the Basset hound (aka Warf) find the kitty, so she gave the totally
untrained dog a sniff of the kitty's blankie and said rather stupidly "find
the kitty".
They started where the kitty had gone under the fence and the dog, nose
down, walk about 4 feet to a bush.
The little girl who had sh#t for brains dragged the dog back to the fence
and started over.
The Basset hound, nose down, patiently walked 4 feet to the bush.
Snarling, the little girl (rather stupidly) tried to start the Basset hound
again and this time he stomped to the bush and did a flat basset.
And the Light Dawned !!!!!!!!!!
The little girl got down on her hands and knees and peered into the foiliage
and saw two kitty eyes glowing back at her. She could almost hear the kitty
laughter....
And so Arsenal came home and the Basset Hound, Warf, got a dish of ice
cream.
And he almost died of pancreatitis from the ice cream. For weeks afterward
the little girl endured endless lectures at work-- for she worked for her
Veterinarian-- about fats, pancreases, Basset hounds, ice cream, people food
and on and on and on, and each lecture ended with
AND YOU, OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER!!!!

Warf recovered. He never got ice cream again, altho subsequent dogs have
gotten it and not become ill.

MORAL OF STORY : rewards and goodies for your heroes and heart dogs can
backfire badly. Be careful what you dish out.
