<<She ran up to him, well actually waddled, and took a good look and sniff
at this thing hanging from his lower
tummy. His ears went back, and he had this goofy look on his face, but not
as goofy as hers.>>

Our last foster, Tyler, came to us straight from the shelter, unfixed.

Jane, who has always gotten along beautifully with all of our fosters just
knew something was different about this one. She circled around him but
wouldn't get near him. She didn't sniff his big boy parts or do any of the
usual greeting behavior.

I could swear she knew that he could do something to her that she was NOT
going to like--something none of the other boy hounds she'd had here could
do.

I had to laugh, because she was so taken aback by this. But since I don't
remember her continuing to be shy around him, they must have come to an
understanding. Tyler only stayed with us about a week, and we had no trouble
between those two. He was really the most wonderful dog. Around the time he
left, Abner started getting jealous of my giving him attention, but Tyler
and Jane must have settled things, since neither bothered or avoided the
other.

Knowing who is and isn't fixed has to be something they smell immediately.
Even a hound who's been fixed from puppyhood knows what it is. And I guess
the girls know that they want to avoid it too.
