I have a basset that went through Pano.... Berto is now 11, when we got him he was going to be our show dog... Tri-Color,length, ears & feet, he was a perfect basset. Our vet was the one who told us to consider showing him....But.... at 2 months he started cryiny when touched, even petting. Then he quit moving. I had to hand feed him, carry him out to go to the bathroom...We were at the vet every week, tests galore, exrays. The poor dog should have died with all that was done to him.. Finally he sent us to a bone specialist for dogs....As soon as we got to his office and we put him down to walk, the vet laughed at us....At this point I was ready to beat the vet to a pulp...He said Berto has Pano, the worst case he had ever seen. After he took the exrays we all sat down and he explained everything. He also showed us exrays from a healthy puppy to show us the differance in the bones...There is no cure for it and it never goes away. All you can do is love them and take extra care...Arthritis follws and continues to worsen every year.. You can never show these dogs or breed them, because its in the bloodline...At the time the specialist was going to put Berto in the medical books, because of how severe it was.. It took 2 months for Berto to finally come around. We still have bad days, but then you give them an aspirin and it helps....I lost alot of work, cryed a lot, even screamed at the breeder, but you know what....he will always be my Baby and I never thought he would be here now...Pano is the sme thing as growing pains in children, the mucsels grow faster than the bones, that's what causes all the pain...I'm sorry to go on, but I hope I have given you a little relief...Take care, Rita & the kids...
