Dear Droolsters,
I read the article in The Chicago Tribune by Gregory Karp (Oct 14, 2010) and he
mentioned that pet insurance is only
worth it if your dog gets really sick.  Well, most of us who have had bassets
know that like humans, end of life care
can be really expensive particularly with diseases like cancer.  In his article
Karp suggests resources which I wish I
had read before purchasing my insurance (although I am convinced that the
company I chose Trupanion is the best
because they have no payout limits).  One website PetInsuranceReview.com is
something I should have checked out
before purchasing the policy.  He also mentions The Dog Bible by Tracie Hotchner
(Gotham) which is only 20 dollars.
I am going to at least see if my library has it.  Trupanion did insure my 7 year
old basset.  Each dog has to "apply"
separately and if your dog has a preexisting condition naturally it won't be
covered (or get a policy).  I have a 35
dollar a month premium which they say won't go up if I make a claim.  There is
also a 500 dollar deductible.  Please
add any pet insurance experiences you have to the drool.  This is an interesting
topic.

Yours in bassetude,
Wendy and Becky  (Bagel and Daisy AKA Trentonia ATB)
