[Dailydrool] bassets in action

at my dog park there is a pack of bassets,basset mixes & assorted honorary bassets  of about 10-12 depending on the season.  this little herd runs like a low to the ground hurricane wind...baying, howling barking etc.  doesn't matter who is the deginated "it" for the day amongst them but they all run like fools.  and there is always someone at the park who says.."gee i never knew a basset could run!" 

by now i think 1/2 the population on monmouth cty , nj has heard that bassets are indeed hunting dogs and should be active & can explain it to the offending ignorant person.  usually they all just laugh and back up as the herd (or horde) charges by them at full vulume.  it is funny though...only certain dogs can be allowed entry into the pack....not just any non-hound friend..you have to be voted in, but once in you are good for life.

they race around over the 2 acres screaming and chasing their 2 usual targets (other than each other) boxers &  huskies.  for extra big fun when there are small crowds we open the gates to the samll small that is next door and they can free range between both parks which they think is just the best thing going.

but yes..people are just amazed that bassets can indeed actually walk fast or heaven forbid..run.  last week buster jumped onto the bench, swiped someones coffee and proudly strolled around the park with it for about 5 minutes before he calmly sat down & drank it.  yeah...i would say they are active.
