Nellybelly has just turned 7. She has been with us almost exactly 5
years as a foster "failure" from NEBHR. She is from a puppy mill, had
poor socialization, a very alpha personality. She was trained to
submission by trainers from her prior owner, and is well schooled in
obedience generally.
When she arrived, she did a lot of submissive peeing, and was
generally a nervous wreck. That is gone. She has learned how to play,
how to chill, enjoy car rides, play with dogs, and be happy. She WANTS
to be alpha, but Otis keeps her in line.
Nelly has also had a couple rounds of problem UTIs, and has been on
strict Royal Canin Rx diet for years now to prevent crystals.
Our problem is that Nelly pees in the house, whenever she wants to.
She sulks, she pees. She gets up in the night, she pees. She pees
outside, and then she MAY come in and pee. She always hides, and we
often do not discover it right away.
I have paid for several urinalysis tests @ $35/ea in the last 2 years
when this occurs, thinking it is a UTI, only to have them be negative.
I have tried to REtrain her to be housebroken. Rewards, leash, crate,
etc.
I have had a 9x12 oriental rug worth about $4000 totally ruined. The
carpet upstairs in our house is ruined. The house smells irreparably
in the summer. I have spent hundreds (no exaggeration) of dollars and
hours on cleaning, Nature's Miracle, and other recommended products.
I cannot stand it anymore. DH is ready to scream. I want Nelly
somewhere else. I realize she would be hard to adopt, but I cannot
stand it. It has always been clear she would prefer to be an only dog,
and she is sweet and easy in many many ways. But as DH and I were
somewhat cornered into taking her, and we have given her everything we
can for 5 years, I just do not think I can do more.
Help me> I need advice and guidance from DD. And please do not bash
me, it will help nothing.
Linda, with Otis and Nelly
