Carol-

I'm so sorry for your lostt of Lady. I lost my Pongo last year from cancer
to the spleen & liver. What I have been finding from people I've talked to
that have lost dogs to cancer is that it doesn't seem to be very evident
until it's too late. My boy hadn't even acted sick. He'd been slowing down
some from arthritis and he'd lost some weight, but he had needed to. It
wasn't until I came home & found him with a nosebleed that anything suspect
appeared. And the next day, I had to make that horrible decision. Don't
blame yourself for not knowing sooner. I think dogs are very good at hiding
things like this and since they can't tell us when they're not feeling well,
sometimes you just can't know.

What I have found is that basset slaves are some of the best around and I
know that your Lady went to the bridge knowing just how much she was loved &
cared for. I'll bet that Pongo & Elder Clara were there to meet her and show
her around. My family & I are slinging much drool your way to help your
heart. It's such a difficult time.
