It's 3am. I am asleep. Correction. I WAS asleep.
Something has woken me - the unmistakable sound of a crisp, fresh apple being munched. At 3am? Really?
I know from the sound who the culprit is, but where did he (yes, it had to be him) get an apple from at 3am? And why did he feel the need to crunch it up in my bedroom, not wherever he stole it from?
I mumble sleepy abuse at him, roll over and go back to sleep.
It's 3.15am. I am asleep. Correction. I WAS asleep.
Something has woken me - the unmistakable sound of a dog chucking up a rapidly- eaten, stolen apple. I turn on the light, stumble out of bed and see the last remnants of apple vomit being licked up off the vinyl planks.
I'll disinfect in the morning.
It's 8.30am. I am about to leave for work - even though it is a bank holiday. I wake daughters and ask if they know anything about missing apples (our fruit bowl is kept locked in the kitchen ever since I found Clara balancing on a shelf over the computer, 6ft above the floor, trying to steal fruit).
Daughter one says "Yes. It was 3am. I was asleep. Correction. I was awake. Something woke me - the unmistakable sound of Rolph going through my handbag and finding an apple. I yelled at him and he went off somewhere. . . .

Mystery solved.
