[Dailydrool] fruits and veggies

The biggies that dogs can't eat are onion and grapes. For the record, I gave Elwood (ATB for many years now) a grape just before all the horrible news on grapes came out and I got to learn how to do the Heimlich maneuver on a dog and swore none of the dogs were getting another grape in their lives. I have heard you have to be careful with mushrooms. My dogs won't eat the mushrooms that fall off the counter. Some dogs have trouble with getting gas after eating "too much" broccoli. I had a basset eat 22 quarts of tomatoes in one day (don't ask) and she had tomato gas for 3 days. I f you feed fruits high in vitamin C some dogs will get the runs. Some dogs will be grateful that they are no longer constipated. In case you are wondering, that would be strawberries, pineapple, citrus. Some dogs don't like citrus at first, but if you peel off the membrane a few times, many of them will decide they will eat it even if you leave the membrane on afterwards. I am also not a big fan of iceburg lettuce, but maybe that is because you can't feed it to rabbits or guinea pigs, so I have never fed it to my dogs. They do eat greens though. They LOVE eating a spinach salad or spring mix. Way to go Snoopy! This is a very good habit for basset that can tend towards portly.

Jennifer, momslave to Beauford (I eat it all) and Bugsey (ummm. I think the watermelon is a squshy and needs to be taken to the dog bed and rolled in.)
