[Dailydrool] Lola update

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to post an update on young Charlie's
alligator-mouth partner, Lola. We were out of town for almost two
weeks, and it feels as if I've hit the ground running since coming
back home.

It's with great relief that I can report that Lola is doing much,
much better now. During the time we were away, Jennifer said that
Lola was lethargic and depressed, and the bloody diarrhea continued
for a while. The ER vet had told her it would take a good week before
Lola was feeling like herself again, so Jennifer sort of expected it
but was still very worried when Lola wasn't interested in paying
attention to what was going on around her.

The night we got back, I went over to pick up our Elsinore and young
Charlie. Lola seemed to be feeling pretty good. She initiated play
with Charlie--lots of alligator mouthing--and Jennifer said it was
the first time since coming home that Lola had started acting like
herself again. But after we went home, Lola's tummy began making
disturbing noises, and she segregated herself from everyone else and
snapped at Owen every time he came near. Jennifer gave her some
Pepcid-AC, and that helped some. But Lola went back to be lethargic
for several more days.

Now, however, Jennifer says she thinks Lola "is back." She's been
patrolling the backyard and keeping watch at her post by the fence,
and she's once again jockeying with Owen for the prime spot on the
sofa. No sign of another relapse. As Jennifer says, she's been "a
very lucky little girl."

After Lola's experience with hemorrhagic enteritis (HE), which came
very close to killing her, I will underline Bev's warning to "head
for the Vet at the very first sign of loose stools, or mucus in the
stools, or vomiting." Or the ER if it's after hours. If Jennifer had
waited until morning to get Lola to the regular vet, she'd be picking
up an urn of ashes right about now. I remain incredulous over how
quickly this illness moved.

Jennifer thanks everyone for the healing drool and words of wisdom. I
do, too!

Elizabeth
