[Dailydrool] Drool for Bel

Yesterday, Bel's back seemed to be giving him trouble. He has arthritis in it, which has made moving about rather difficult. It doesn't help that we have such muggy weather from the edge of Hurricane Irene; the muggy stuff always makes him worse.

When he was even more peaky this morning, I decided to take advantage of the fact that I practically live at the vets and to try to get a vet to see Bel. After all, I didn't want to be calling around in the storm, trying to find an emergency vet.

Bel got a shot of dexamethasone, and the vet upped his prednisolone dose. It's too early to tell how well the shot will work, since it has at least another three hours to take its full effect, but Bel is trying to get around as best he can, on his butt, so I think he's feeling some relief already.

If you could sling a bit of drool in his direction, I'd appreciate it. I'm hoping Bel will be able to walk again, even if he is slow and tottery. The vet said the prognosis is not great, but he might be able to change the pred to another steriod, if the pred did not work.

Despite all this, Bel is suprisingly feisty. I think he just does not want to leave his mama until he absolutely has to. That's fine with me, because every time I take him to the vet's, I fear I will lose him. It was wonderful to get a reprieve this time--for however long it is.
