We put garlic into our raw food mix, and have been doing so for 8+ years.  We do not use any flea or tick prevention and have three pest free hounds despite living in a wooded rural setting.   Onions are dangerous for dogs, and because they are related, many people, including vets (especially those who disdain raw diets) conclude garlic is bad for dogs too.
