I had the wonderful pleasure to attend yesterday's Westminster IN PERSON yesterday. Auntie Walli came with me, and we got into NYC in time for the 8am classes. First, however, we visited Hotel Penn where a lot of the show dogs were staying, and it was dog heaven. Call me a newbie, but I was very impressed with the care the Hotel took to make the dogs welcome and comfortable.
In the ring where the bassets showed, the 13" beagles were first and then the 15" beagles. Oh, they were precious. Then the wonderful bassets had their moments. Only 6 of the 10 entered showed up, 4 males and 2 females, one more beautiful than the other. I could never be a judge, they were all winners to me.
So many dogs, so little time. There were 6 rings active simultaneously. Judging was steady in all rings until about 4 pm. Depending upon where we stood, sat or wandered, at any given time we were watching one, three or six rings at once. Assigned seating was moot until 8pm. The benching area was chaotic as the Garden is under construction, and the dogs were crammed into about 1/2 amount of space they are usually allotted.
The arena was completely transformed by the time the hounds started their class at 8pm. There was a huge amount of energy and suspense in the air. To me, it was surreal. I thought it was unfortunate that the basset didn't make the cut, but there were 28 hounds in this group, all top of their breeds, so while disappointing, it was not unexpected. I do think there was a basset "Noodles", if I am not mistaken, who went very far in winning, and I really thought there was one who won the hound group, but I don't recall their ever being a BEST IN SHOW.
CBL, I looked for you, sorry we didn't get to say HI.
Now to shirts. My giant box of Suncoast Sweetheart Waddle shirts arrived today, and I say giant box because I am honored to say that my Pierre jr. is the ironic face on the shirt, and this shirt will be a staple in my closet for a very long time, plus, I will be giving some away. Thank you Kathy, it is marvelous. I wore the sweatshirt today, and it is very warm, soft and cozy. I just love it. I have sweatshirts and long and short sleeve tee shirts to last me a life time. They are available on the Suncoast Basset Rescue website in celebration of their sweetheart waddle on Feb 26. I say Pierre's ironic face because he is snarking, but he truly is a sweetheart. He is just pretending to be a pirate LOL. I hope the waddle is a fantastic success, and we will be there with you in spirit. Family obligations prohibit my getting away this year, but it is always on my mind, and I did take a baby step yesterday in going to the dog show!!!!
Quoting my dear friend, "sometimes.... life is good."

I am so sorry for all those living with sadness of the loss of a beloved or the impending loss. Today, I broke out some homemade chicken jerky, and the drool has been flowing overtime. Heart healing and health healing drool to all.
Jackie, Pumpkin, Jean Paul, Pierre jr., Jellybean, Nigel, Colette, Max, Nikki and Pierre Louis Sr. (ATB), forever in my heart
