HA!  my boys share dog throws.. I put two down and when they're gated in the
laundry room (doggie door outside) they get just the two throws (they're big
throws, designed to go over a love seat sized sofa for dogs to get on and
not spread hair to the seat)

 

Also, you mentioned this is the one room you keep pristine. and that you
never really use.. 

 

Can you baby gate the room?  Kids-R-Us has, in the past, had the one handed,
spring locking baby gates for 19.99.  They're all plastic for the most part,
I keep extras on hand .. you can break up a fight with them inserting them
into the middle of said jousting hounds without getting your hand in the
way, you can use them with a bungee cord to the front head rests and thus
turn baby-gate into car-gate keeping hounds from moving to the front seats .
they are very versatile.

 

The gates work best when they are in a door-jamb, placed so that the hounds
pressure on the gate is actually up against the jamb, thus they can't push
the gate through.   And if the opening that the gate has to go in, is
without a door jamb, you could add one that's half height or adapt some wood
around the frame to make a door jamb, so that the combination of the
pressure from the gate, and jambs that fit around this opening's
casing/frame 

ie. when looking down upon these wood jamb add-ons, they would be in the
form of a squared C shape with a lip like this  -[

. they learned almost instantly by positive reinforcement, & a little bit of
drama added to convey the importance of following the house rule.  

 

.I also have to address the sofa issue as my wife & I both are perplexed as
to why Riley isn't "getting it" that the sofa is a non-approachable area.  

Please don't misinterpret this as being mean, both Riley & Edgrrr both have
two beds each on the main floor of the house & one each in the bedroom,  .
