Yesterday I got a call from a man whose neighbor died and he left behind his
Basset in the yard of his home. The neighbor died three months ago and Jack,
the man up the street thought the mans children who lived next door to the
dog had taken the old mans dog but not the case. So here was this poor
starved Basset still in the yard barely able to stand. Good thing we had
been getting plenty of rain lately at least he had moldy green water to
drink.
The neighbor, Jack, took the son some dog food so he could feed the dog he
thought maybe he could not afford food but two days later saw the food just
poured out in the muddy yard the whlole bag!! It had rained so the food was
ruined. The dog had bug bites all over his face and back so many that one
ear was almost chewed in two from the flies, his teeth were broken and
missing like he had been kicked in the mouth, his jaw is even a little
crooked, he has a scar across his cornea and the son told Jack he would just
as soon the dog died because he did not want to mess with it. Jack, the
neighbor called me and I went and got this poor boy.
Thank goodness he is heartworm negative and has no worms, but he is skin and
bones, even though he is starving he is so gentle and careful not to bite
when taking a treat. I gave him a bath and took him to the vet and he is
resting in an air conditioned house right now. My dogs are not happy their
is a newcomer who wants moms attention but I his story broke my heart and I
could not leave him there an instant longer. This is the way it is with
rescue every day every day one of the rescues gets a call similar to the one
I got and every day we take in another Basset with problems. People can be
so cruel but dogs do not remember they only forgive.
