Bobby's mommy - I'm so sorry Bob isn't feeling well. In response to your request
for successful spleen surgery stories, my Basil had his spleen removed. That
evening, he wouldn't settle down to go to sleep; kept stretching his back. I
thought he had hurt his back, so I took him to the emergency vet. (Of course,
these things always happen after the regular vet is closed...) Anyway, they kept
him there for the night under the assumption that it WAS a back injury, but
x-rays of his spine didn't show anything. When he didn't respond to the
painkillers they gave him, they took a different set of x-rays and found a huge
dark spot on his spleen. It turned out to be a huge bloody tumor - the tumor was
the size of a baseball and larger than his spleen itself. They called me at 4 AM
to tell me this, and said he'd need emergency surgery. I had only adopted him
about 5 months prior and wasn't ready to let him go yet! Since he was otherwise
healthy, I had them do the surgery. He came through fine, and recovered within
a week. This was about 18 months ago, and he's never had any issues resulting
from that surgery.

________________________________
Bob woke up to projectile vomiting and when he started pacing and gulping air I
took him to the vet, they wanted to do an xray to look at his guts.
Bob does appear to have a mass in his abdomen..xrays aren't the best way to see
stuff like this but..his stomach isnt where it belongs, his intestines arent
were they belong and that is because of the unknown white denseness by the liver
and spleen..
we can have an ultrasound to determine what it is and what organ is involved but
right now I don't see the point..after all the spleen surgeries Ive heard of I
would never ever put him thru that..so if someone knows of a successful
spleen surgery story would love to hear it..
The vet does not think that is the immediate reason for Bobs throwing up and
pain today she thinks he has gastroitis..he has mass gas in his stomach and has
a thick looking wall to his intestines that and the fact that his stomach is all
on one side and the intestines on the other she says is causing him the
discomfort..
she gave him something called cerenia which she said will stop the nausea and
then a morphine based pain killer with valium to help the pain and knock him out
for the xrays so he is zoned for the world I barely got him in the house
she gave me a diet for him for the next few days and we will see iffen he
bounces back..if he gets well from the immediate stomach issues we can see where
we go
Just wanted to let you know so you didnt "hear" of it ..its not a secret so I
dont care if you share the info
very bummed
