My Homer was diagnosed with early stage kidney disease several years back.
So at the end of last week when he wouldn't eat, not even his beloved
chicken and didn't appear to be feeling well at all, I took him to the vet
fully expecting that the kidney disease had worsened and that we were going
to have to ramp up the plan of attack on the disease. Never in a million
years was I prepared to learn that he has a high grade sarcoma and could go
to the bridge at any time.

I took Monday and Tuesday off to stay at home with him. Unfortunately, I had
to come back to work today as I am nearly out of time off. It kiiled me to
walk out the front door this morning and leave him. It also makes me furious
that employers won't take into account that I look at Homer just the same as
one of my co-workers look at their human son. Nobody would expect them to
come in to work if their child was sick like this. I have cried and cried
and then cried so more when I read that Elder Clara had gone on to the
Bridge,.

I intend to make Homer as comfortable as possible for however much time he
has left and when it is time, I will let him go with a very huge hole in my
heart.
