Hi, I am new to basset's and have learned so much from all of you. I
became my Tabitha's forever home at Halloween, her foster mom, Sue
Ramsey, had named her Tabitha after Samantha's daughter in
Bewitched. I had lost 2 dogs over the past year and it took some time
to adopt another but when my grandson who is autistic fell in love
with a basset at a local fair where Carolina Basset Hound Rescue had
a booth I knew it was time. I had a wonderful home visit with Dee and
Bob Ezel and their beautiful Ella Louise. When Sue brought out
Tabitha for me to meet it was love at first sight. I was so happy
with my very little bundle of joy. Tabitha is like a miniature
basset. She is only 36 pounds and is about 34 inches long. My vet
thought she was maybe the "runt" of the litter but she is perfect to
me. She was found on the road in a very poor county and kept at their
shelter for a month because the shelter workers saw something special
in her. The shelter usually only keeps animals for a few days due to
lack of funds to care for them. Then CBHR picked her up. Her right
rear leg is fused but it does not slow her down.. I believe she is
unusual because she does not bark or howl and she has not drooled and
because of her size she can't counter cruise.
She does sniff everything on our walks. My dog sitter says she
sniffs every blade of grass. She can be very stubborn on a walk so I
try to give her time to sniff. She is very friendly with people,
children and other dogs. I entered her in the luckiest dog contest at
our local mall for St. Patrick's day and she won first prize. I will
enclose her picture so you can all meet my little love.
