Re: 17 month old dog who is getting into trouble. Sending a dog away for 2
weeks is not going to fix the problem, it could even make it worse.  I
shudder to think about an electric collar being used for training. Part of
the training process is to train the people too, in fact of a lot of it is
training the people.  What will work is to find a positive-based dog
training center in your area and go to class.  That way both you and the
basset will get some training and support.  I also have to wonder if your
young dog is getting enough attention and exercise.  Dogs destroy furniture
because they are bored or perhaps have separation anxiety, not because they
are bad.  Hopefully some of the Florida droolers will be able to give you
some good suggestions for trainers in your area.  Always interview a
prospective trainer about their experience with bassets.  If they make
negative comments about bassets- cross them off your list.
