Hi,
Thanks to everybody for feeding suggestions, and I do need
to find another vet! We're feeding Dascha more and
hope that it's enough to help her grow into her feet.
Dascha's been a bit stressed lately because we've moved (let's just
say that at the last place, her fave hobby was catching cockroaches,
and the management was doing nothing about it). But our new building
is full of fun dogs, and only a short walk away from a great park. We
even met another Basset, the first I have ever seen apart from my own!
Both dogs ended up covered in drool :)
Just a quick story from one of our walks I haven't been able to forget
all day. My biggest problem with walking Dascha is her exuberance: she
wants to greet everybody and lick them. On the one hand, I'm really
grateful that her past experiences (puppy mill, pet store, and an
owner who thought she was cute but not worth the trouble) haven't
ruined her sunny disposition. On the other hand, navigating a street
full of people who don't want to be licked is hell (and makes me mad
on Dascha's behalf when she tries so hard to be friendly and people
ignore her!). Today, I was tired and my attention swerved a bit; next
thing I know Dascha was licking a man coming towards us. This man had
obviously been in some sort of accident; it looked like he had a skin
graft on his face, so what does my dog do when he goes to pet her? She
licks his face with a look of intense concentration. He was beaming,
and I was so proud of my Dascha for being a loving dog, even to
strangers. I feel so lucky that I get to spend my days around such a
sweet dog.
Dascha has worked up plenty of drool today and sends it to everyone in
need.
Alla, caretaker of Dascha, who manages to dig out my insoles wherever
I hide them and buries them in my bedding.
