[Dailydrool] tonsils and adenoids

This is a cool topic.
Mitchell had tonsilitis. I noticed one day when he reared up with his mouth
agape to grab a ball, that one tonsil was out of the crypt and swollen and
red.
I did some reading and one thing I did not like was that chronic tonsilitis
(which I imagine includes the adenoids) *may* be connected to Lymphoma.
We did a round of antibiotics and a couple of months later had to repeat
it. Third time's the charm and I suggested we remove the tonsils.. I was
not going to play around with something that might lead later to lymphoma.
Unfortunately, my Vets had never done this. The Vet I knew of who did was
the Vet for a number of show dog people, many of whom have tonsils removed
as a routine preventative against sore throats in dogs. This was really
news to me.
I offered to take Mitchell up north to this other Vet, but Dr T said no,
give me a week or two and I'd like to learn how to do this. She said if she
needed to she would go observe how they did it, but give her time to
research it.
And so it happened that Mitchell became the very first tonsilectomy
performed at my Vet's, and it was quick and easy and he had not one problem
with it and he is one dog we have had who did not die, ultimately, of
cancer.

I would suggest that if the problem continues you consult with your
Veterinarian about removing the adenoids and tonsils.
