[Dailydrool] Kennel cough

Dear Ron and Barney,
Kennel cough is rather common. I had a case of it pop up when I had three
dogs. Two came down with it and one NEVER did so yes I was given the same
advice by my vet. Some dogs just have a natural immunity to it. It is
usually transmitted when they contact nose to nose through the nasal
caviites like a virus. There is a nose drop called Bordetella that the vet
can give your dog that will protect him in the future. The protection is
good for a year.

Hope this helps...

Subject: [Dailydrool] Kennel cough

Last night my grand daughters little mix started hacking and throwing up.
We took sprocket to the Vet this after noon and he was diagnosed with kennel
cough. Our Barney and Sprocket live and play together. The Vet gave Sprocket
meds and advised us that Barney will more then likely wind up with the
disease. The Vet thinks Sprocket was exposed at the dog park. Barney is 9
years old, and in good health, but I am very concerned how this will affect
him. The Vet said I should wait and see if Barney is infected, then come in
and get meds. Is this the best advice? Any other options? I live on a well
traveled corner lot with a park across the street where our friends and
their 4 legged companions play daily. How do I keep the chance of exposure
down?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Ron & Barney
