[Dailydrool] Christmas trees

I am so glad someone brought up this topic. For years we've only had seniors, but this year we will have Dexter, the almost five-year-old, not-destined-to-spend-long-as-a-foster hound. (We will adopt him before Christmas, and he will spend his fifth birthday, just after Christmas, in his forever home.) Though he is five, he is plenty sassy. But since he's not a youngster, I never would have thought about how he'd react to a tree. now that I think of it, certainly any of the stuffed ornaments might be at risk, because he loves his stuffies. And if the cat was anywhere nearby, he'd probably do a chase, putting the tree at risk.

This has been one of the joys of having seniors--no worries about trees "self-destructing." But we are so glad to have this little fellow who seems so much like a puppy to us, though we know he has a few more years than a real pup.

Every basset age has its own joys. But those who have seniors can thank their hounds that the tree is generally safe, as long as it's tucked in a corner.
