[Dailydrool] How we end up with Bassets?

I grew up with black labs.  My husband grew up with doxies.
We had to find a breed that we both liked and ended up with bassets.
Our first one was a skinny little 8(?) week old basset/beagle, who we 
named Sniffles, that we got at the local humane society.
He was a wonderful dog who hated loud voices, loved everybody and NEVER 
barked.
He lived to be 11 and died very quickly of what was guessed to be a 
massive viral infection.
A gross autopsy showed that he was in the mid-stages of kidney failure.
I still miss him.
