Julie:
You probably have an infestation of fleas in your house by now too. I don't know that this tip will help you now, but maybe it will help if you do it next year at the sign of the first flea.

Our foster Holly picked up some fleas (at her vet's I think, since it happened just after a vet visit). We were back and forth there, so the next time I went, I asked what to do about it. The vet suggested that I make up a spray bottle with a mixture of Dawn dishwashing fluid and water. She told me to spray it around on the furniture.

OK, I was a bit apprehensive, but it really helped and did not ruin my furniture (though you might want to do a test spray on somewhere that doesn't matter, if there's a chance your furniture covering will run). I even used it on our mattress, and everything came out fine. I sprayed very throughly and more than once, but in a short time we were flea free.

The vet told me that if this didn't work, the next step was to use a bomb and evacuate everyone for most of the day--something I can tell you I was NOT looking forward to, especially since our very elderly and incontinent Belvedere was with us then.

I hope this at least helps those who have smaller flea infestations. Here in northern New Jersey, I don't get serious flea problems very often, perhaps because the hounds aren't romping outdoors very much.

Oh, Vickie, Sebastian looks so cute! I'm sure he'd never counter cruise, steal food, or chew up anything but his toys--the things that make me think I could never take in a puppy (yeah, right!). I miss having a boy dog around the house since we lost our Belvedere. How I wish I had the energy for a cutie pie like your Sebastian. Those clumsy little puppy legs were just adorable.
