[Dailydrool] Varmint Hunter!

LaVerne came to us as a foster and within a week became a permanent fixture in our home.  She has a lot of black on her and she has no white mark at the end of her tail making it hard to use as a hunting dog (not that we hunt) - in any case not long after she was here I let her out in the middle of the night only to here a horrid noise and immediately thought she was in trouble - I ran onto the deck with a flashlight only to see her coming out of the darkness with something dangling from her mouth!  I ran back inside shut the door and ran for my husband who was upstairs....neither of us have the capability to run anymore with his illness and my bum leg so by the time we got back to the staircase LaVerne had busted in the door and was sitting in the middle of the living room with a very large and dead rabbit at her feet wagging her tail!  She had snapped the poor things neck by surprise.  Needless to say it was pretty funny!  My husband got out the thongs and picked the poor thing up and threw it over the fence where in the morning I buried him/her.  A few months later Bailey came walking in the house carrying something and when my hubby looked he found it to be 1/2 a rabbit!  Yes LaVerne had got another one only Bailey thought it was a toy and they played tug of war with the poor thing....we disposed of the back half and had to go looking for the rest of that poor rabbit.  She has come very close to getting Mr. Squirrel too - but he happens to be a bit faster and can leap to a tree.  All the others ever did were to catch the occasional mole!
