Yes, Nigel is still with you and you  don't have to explain your reasons or 
feelings.  We went through the same  thing with our Scarlet, Beau and Rhett 
- we put off the inevitable as long as  possible - some people understood 
and others didn't.  Over the years, there  have been many other Bassets and a 
Collie in our home but they were in pain and  there really was no decision 
to be made.

When the time is right, you will  know it.  Sometimes you can see a look in 
your precious hound's eyes that  tells you it's time, and other times you 
feel it in your heart.  But  please, don't let anyone rush you.

Please don't feel that you have to  justify why you have not sent Nigel on 
his journey.  He is with you for a  while longer because you love him, he's 
not in pain and you are definitely  caring for him.
